Banner of the Stars

Seikai no Senki

There needs to be more of this show, seriously. I need my dose of Admiral Spoor and the Bebaus brothers.

Banner of the Stars has lesser focus on Jinto and Lafiel compared to Crest, but it makes it up for the introduction of a host of new characters, most notably the hillarious Bebaus brothers and the enigmatic Crown Prince, Dusanyu. I greatly enjoyed the bantering of the Bebaus brothers and Dusanyu’s Spoor-esque teasing of his 2nd in command, Keneesh. The whole dialogue of this characters is purely work of a genius.

As for Lafiel and Jinto, their relationship at the beginning has somewhat reverted to what we call as a “grade school” type. It does slowly grow over the series especially at the end of the SnSII and in SnSIII, but it kinda becomes a bit boring.

Instead they are somewhat overshadowed by the other characters, the crew of the Basroil, Samson, Sobaash and Ekuryua. Samson is the typical older “good” oyaji-type character, Sobaash is the trap *bishounen* and Ekuryua is a funnier and bold, aloof type. It’s funny seeing her making passes at Jinto with her ice-cold expressions and right in front of Lafiel, creating some kind of a funny “war” going on. She cracks me up even more in SnSIII, with her flying. Let’s just say flying is Ekuryua’s greatest turn-on.

So now, let’s all hope for more of the anime, if only to resolve the important questions such as, “What is the Abh hell?”, “Which Bebaus brother did Keneesh was involved in?” and, most importantly, “What are the eating customs of Midgart?!”.

    I loved Banner of the Stars (as well as Banner of the Stars II, to a lesser extent.) I can’t wait to see the third Banner of the Stars.

    There is, Banner of the Stars II and III(OVA). IMO II it is the weakest of the series but the payoff at the last episode is worth it, and III is avaliable on fansub.

    @Shenlong: I’ve watched all of them. II’s plot is admitedly weak, because of Jinto’s “heroic” spirit, but it did have it’s enjoyable moments, like say the homosexual conversation and Sobaash’s threat of the Abh hell.

    Well all SciFi fans should hope for more this this series. There are new novels being published so the original matieral isn’t lacking. However, being a pessimist I think the chances of that are low for the forseeable future. Bandai/Sunrise is probably just gonna make more crap like GSD so they can sell more toys and rake in the cash rather than a more niche series like this. Besides with the way they ended SnSIII it looks like they plan on putting the series on hiatus.

    I have seen a little bit of SnSIV and that book is much more fit to be animated compared to III. I strongly suspect that III was animated for the sole reason of creating a bridge into IV, for in my opinion, III is a great book on its own, but it was not a good story to be animated, and the OVA was little bit worse than I expected.

    Hopefully, wontaek is right and there will be more anime to come. I think I read somewhere that IV was actaully the first part of a three part storyline? If thats true (and I am not sure) then that might mean they will wait untill all three books are published and make an anime from the three books like they did with the original Crest of the Stars. Thats means more waitng ;_;
