I thought this episode follows on from the first one very well, but is radically different in tone. I'm relatively new to this whole anime thing, but I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before - where slapstick and melodrama sit comfortably side by side, and Hazumu's charming naivety and Asuta's (understandable) lasciviousness inhabit the same world as Tomari's over the top karate kicking. And it all works rather well! Like you, I'm deeply concerned about Hazumu's father - I mean, what is all that about? He's always dreamed of having a bath with his daughter?!? Dear Lord! (Perhaps the most unsettling thing about that particular moment was the fact that it was accompanied by a 'jolly' section of soundtrack!)

But, just when you think you've made a horrible mistake, the episode does something so wonderful and moving that you can't help but be touched by the characters and their unusual predicament. Tomari saving Hazumu from the reporters at the end is a wonderful touch and, like you, I think the flashbacks are very effective.

So, yeah, I'm hooked! :)
