No new OP and ED this episode, kinda of a big letdown of course :P. But we do get to see Shana in her pre-Flame Haze days and the introduction of Wilhelmina. I’m not going to summarise fully as there were quite some parts I couldn’t get :P.
Basically, it seems that Shana was an abandoned baby, picked up by Wilhelmina and trained to become a Flame Haze, showing off some exceptional talents. Wilhelmina seems to be serving Alastor, but she is a Flame Haze by her own right, contracted to Tiamat.
This episode seems to focus on what happened when Shana became a Flame Haze, due to the attack by some Guze no Tomogara on the Tendokyuu, the island she’s living on. There’s not much revealed yet, and I’m in a muddle about some of the parts, so we’ll have to see next episode.
Back to the characters, Shana is awfully cute this episode, wearing that *qipao*-styled battle costume, which admitedly in it’s first form, quite inhibiting to movements. She also has some cute moments and it’s good to see she had some mischievious thoughts in her head. I went “aww~~~~” when she spilled the spaghetti on her head, then got the idea of a trap thanks to it ^_^.The eyecatch this week was cute too, with Shana and Kazumi in kimono bowing down to welcome the new year :).
Wilhelmina herself is quite funny and interesting to watch too. She’s always giving off the feeling of being spaced out, much like ARIA’s Athena-sempai. She got a habit too of adding in “*de-arimasu*” at the end of her sentences and seems really stoic too. She was really funny with the flat “*aahhh~~~*” when Shana pushed her down XD.
Next week deals with how Shana became a Flame Haze and how she aquires the Nietono no Shana. I’d thought that Alastor gave her Nietono no Shana all this time, but it seems not so. I wonder though, if Wilhelmina is still around?
