SHUFFLE! 20

From the SHUFFLE! Visual Fan Book

Top of my watching list this week, as we head closer and closer to the ending. The ongoing battle for Rin’s heart between Asa and Kaede escalates to a higher level.

I’m pretty sad to see that SHUFFLE! is probably heading over for an Asa ending given the developments in this episode, with Rin showing much more obvious signs that he’s going to spend his future together, with all that talk about heading into the same university with a fun-filled campus life. His concern over Asa is also pretty much obvious, as he skips school and spends the night looking after Asa.

However, on both sides of the battle, both Kaede’s and Asa’s conditions are pretty much worsening. Kaede is visibly struggling to keep a hold of herself, but her true emotions are still escaping. Given that looking after Rin was Kaede’s main purpose in her life, Rin’s increasing neglect of her is causing her self-control to break down. She’s also hampered by the fact that she’s unwilling to confess her true feelings towards Rin due to her inability to forgive herself for blaming Rin for her mother’s death.

While for Asa, even as she forces herself to look healthy, her condition is getting much more worse, evidenced later in the episode. Being hospitalized, she takes a break from the limelight a bit, as Kaede’s ongoing conflict is focused here, but her presence is still felt, in the way that Rin is planning to go ahead with her. In a way, I can understand Asa’s feelings given that she was sickly all the time, and spent her healthy time doing things that she wanted to do as much as possible.

Going back to Kaede, the second half bears more witness to her mental breakdown, most notably her eyebags indiciating that she’s not sleeping much. She tries to keep a semblence of life previously but fails in the end, jumping in to Rin’s bed naked (providing this week’s R-15 shots) and begging Rin to be by her side, but not quite confessing her love towards Rin. This clearly provides the wake-up call to Rin, as he finally realises his indecisiveness has caused a lot of pain to the other girls as well.

Still, the surprise here was Primula’s confession as she questions Kaede’s motives and tries to get her to confess her love for Rin, to which Kaede still doesn’t want to. Rin spends the whole night out thinking and frankly, I’d thought that he was going to be in an accident, especially when the rain came :P.

However, and fortunately, that doesn’t materialise and Rin comes home to pull a big shocker on Kaede as he wants to leave the house, further destabilizing Kaede’s already unstable state of mind. Since the producers “neglected” to put in a preview for the next episode, which is actually quite rare this days, I have high hopes for SHUFFLE! 21. With Kaede’s world breaking down and Asa’s physical fraility, who will win in the end?

Four more episodes to go… having Asa as the “winner” is like Keitaro ending up with Kitsune at the end of Love Hina.

Poor Kaede! I don’t think she lost yet, unless it was evident that Rin starts despising Kaede for her actions. It seems to me, both girls have a 50% chance of ending up with him. Rin is they type who takes full responsibility for the people he cares most.

He will most likely feel indebted to Kaede for always taking care of him, and will probably regret ignoring her which caused her mental breakdown. Asa is the one he loves, and her condition is worsening, but will Rin follow his heart or consciousness? I believe the two will be the deciding factors, in who he will end up with. His heart belongs to Asa, while his soul belongs to Kaede.

@Jason- Asa-sempai FTW! Haha an Asa fangirl right here and proud of it! XD

Problematic, quite true. I left that out as well.

I’m pretty much crossing my fingers for a Kaede ending, but an Asa ending is good too, for me. I just hope they resolve Kaede’s situation properly, in the case of an Asa ending, since they deviated from the game by making Kaede have Obssesive Compulsive Disorder (which I think I myself might have a bit :).

Hopefully, Kaede gets an happy ending, even with an Asa ending produced.

They’re doing the inverse exposure style ending seen in many eroges. The Kimi ga Nozomu Eien game, for instance, was well known for this.

Ending A, for instance would focus a lot of the character development of B, and likewise Ending B would focus a lot on A.

So I’d it’s leading to an Asa ending, but Kaede will steal the screen.

The ones really screwed over are Sia and Nerine, though. What the hell was their purpose in the grand scheme of things?

Oh really? Hmm… hopefully so… I still haven’t seen enough eroge’s to know this style :).

Sia and Nerine are definitely a bit too neglected, but then, in a logical way of thinking, Sia and Nerine havent been here too long, while Asa and Kaede have been in Rin’s life for a long time.

well, this was a charmer of an episode. Really pressing down on the drama. I’m guessing Nerine and Sia were there to fill in gaps and to lead Rin down the right path. I’m suspecting maybe they’ll talk to him in the next few episodes and he’ll make a descision…hmm…but it’d really pressuring on him. i think the shock of being rejected might either kill asa or send kaede in a coma or something.

    no!
    it roasts not – or
still I do not lose the hopes of which kaede will be with
    Rin….

they must think about that Handle betrayed the friendship of Kaede, she knew perfectly that kaede always has loved Rin, but it took advantage of the opportunity which they appeared Sia and
Nerine (and from the beginning) insinuated to him ¬¬ to him
then, as they want that now it remains with Rin? if we thought a little, the most indicated it is Kaede, then it ALWAYS has been and will be next to him.

    kaedexRin!!!!!!!!!!! to êver!

    poor Kaede!!!!

He needs to give her a big hug, whatever he decides.

I think she deserves him more than anyone, but their relationship lacks the spark seen between Rin and Asa. Probably due to her feeling inadequate, poor girl.
I hope nothing bad happens to her, like a breakdown or worse.

    hmm….we know that Rin has choosen Asa…but will she survive??:S :S :S
Kaeda is a good girl but i think if Asa dies ( nooo way!!) then Rin wont go back to Kaede…..he thinks about Kaeda as a childhood friend…
